Antivirus/Antispyware Programs
Although the vast majority of the information and transactions conducted on the internet are perfectly safe, there are individuals whose goal is to steal or corrupt your information or gain access to your computer via the internet. There are many varieties of malicious programs including: viruses, malware, spyware, adware, hijackers, worms, trojans, and keyloggers to name just a few. To insure that you are not a victim, it is highly recommended that you install antivirus/antispyware programs on your computer. These types of programs are available for purchase from local computer stores and major retailers. Some free programs (Adaware, Avast, Spybot, AVG, etc.) are also available on the internet. Security suites are also available that offer a complete security package from one manufacturer in one box. Before choosing and installing antivirus/antispyware programs, it is highly recommended that you use a search engine (i.e. Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) to look for reviews and comparisons on currently available programs. Many computer oriented websites (CNet, PC Magazine, PC World, etc.) will have reviews of various programs as well as comparisons that can help you choose the program(s) best for your computer. Avast, Spybot, AVG, Google, Yahoo, MSN, Cnet, PC Magazine, and PC World are all registered trademarks of their respective owners. EnergyNet and Hopkinsville Electric System have no affiliation with any of these companies. These companies and their products are provided solely for informational purposes for use at your own risk.
