What's the difference between asymmetrical and symmetrical fiber internet service?
Most internet services are asymmetrical, meaning that the download speed is typically greater than the upload speed (ex. 3 meg download and 384k upload speeds). For businesses that routinely have a high volume of outbound traffic, a symmetrical service is better suited to their needs. A symmetrical service has identical download and upload speeds (ex. 5 meg download and 5 meg upload speeds).

What preparations do I need to make to my building to prepare for fiber optic internet service connection?
Before making any preparations, it is important to involve EnergyNet technicians to discuss your installation. Key points that must be considered include: where is the nearest fiber cable relative to your building, will the fiber cable come into your building overhead or run underground, where will the fiber cable actually enter your building, where will you want the fiber cable to terminate. The EnergyNet technician will then discuss the installation with you and inform you of which aspects of the installation will be your responsibility. Typical customer responsibilities include: drilling a 3/4" min. hole through an exterior wall, installing an attachment point for fiber cable coming in from a utility pole, running conduit inside your building, and providing a 110V power supply at the fiber cable termination point.
