Setting up your email account on your computer

If you choose to have an EnergyNet email account (ex. anyuser@hesenergy.net), you may use a variety of email programs to manage your email. Most computers will have Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Windows Mail already on them. Either of these programs may be used to manage your email. Since these are the two most commonly used programs, we have provided instructions below to help you set up either of these programs on your computer to be able to download your email from the mail servers at EnergyNet.

Microsoft Outlook Express Setup

  1. Open Outlook Express by clicking on "Start" then "Programs" then choose "Outlook Express."
  2. Once the program opens, click on "Tools" on the top menu bar. From the dropdown menu, click on "E-mail Accounts."
  3. This will open the E-mail accounts wizard. Click on the radio button for "Add a new e-mail account" and then click "Next." 
  4. You are now asked for your server type. Click on the radio button for "Pop3" and click "Next."
  5. In the "Your Name" box, type in the name that you will want recipients of your emails to see. (Example: John Doe, John & Jane Doe, The Doe Family)   
  6. In the "E-mail Address" box, type in your EnergyNet e-mail address. This will be your user name followed by "@hesenergy.net." (Example: If your user name was "anyuser," your email address would be: anyuser@hesenergy.net.) Click "Next."
  7. The incoming and outgoing mail server addresses are the same for EnergyNet. In both of these boxes, type "mail.hesenergy.net".
  8. In the "User Name" box, type in the user name you supplied to EnergyNet. This should be listed on your application paperwork.
  9. In the "Password" box, type in the password you supplied to EnergyNet. If you don't want to have to enter your password each time you open your email program, check the box "Remember Password." At this point, you can click on the box "Test Account Settings" to send a test email to yourself.
  10. When finished, Click "Next." At the next box, click "Finish." Your email account is now set up to send and receive your EnergyNet email.

Microsoft Windows Mail

  1. Open Windows Mail by clicking on "Start" then "Programs" then "Windows Mail."
  2. Once the program opens, click on "Tools" on the top menu bar. From the dropdown menu, click on "Accounts."
  3. On the right side of the popup box, click on "Add."
  4. When the next box opens, click on "E-mail Account" and then click on "Next."
  5. In the empty white box, type in the name that you want to others to see when they receive an email from you. (Example: John Doe, John & Jane Doe, The Doe Family) Click "Next." 
  6. Enter your EnergyNet email address. This will be your user name followed by "@hesenergy.net". (Example: If your user name was "anyuser," your email address would be: anyuser@hesenergy.net.) Click "Next."                                                                                                    
  7. At the next box, chose "POP3" as the incoming e-mail server type. In both the incoming and outgoing e-mail server boxes, type in "mail.hesenergy.net". Click "Next."
  8. In the "User Name" box, type in the user name you supplied to EnergyNet. This should be listed on your application paperwork.
  9. In the "Password" box, type in the password you supplied to EnergyNet. If you don't want to have to enter your password each time you open your email program, check the box "Remember Password." Click "Next." Your email account is now set up to send and receive EnergyNet email.
