How does your new 3 Meg high speed internet service work?
This new service does not come into your house over wires like cable or DSL service. Instead, it utilizes wireless technology. A small receiving device is installed next to your computer. This device communicates wirelessly with radios mounted on utility poles throughout Hopkinsville. All transmissions are encrypted, keeping your information safe.

Do I need a phone line to get the 3 Meg high speed internet service?
No. The EnergyNet 3 Meg high speed internet service comes into your home wirelessly over the airwaves. This makes it a perfect solution for residents who no longer use a land-based phone service but instead use their cell phones for their home phone service.

Can I use my laptop anywhere with the 3 Meg high speed service?
Laptops cannot access the EnergyNet wireless mesh network directly using their internal wireless network card. To use your laptop wirelessly in and around your home, you must purchase and install a wireless router. The wireless router will connect to the EnergyNet receiver using an ethernet cable and will broadcast your internet services wirelessly throughout your home. Wireless routers can be purchased locally at large retailers, office supply stores and computer/electronics stores.  A laptop can also access the EnergyNet 3 Meg service using an ethernet cable plugged directly into the EnergyNet receiver or a router which is plugged into the EnergyNet receiver.

Can I get the new 3 Meg high speed service on any computer?
As long as your computer has an Ethernet port, it can utilize the EnergyNet high speed service. An Ethernet port looks like a standard phone jack, only larger. It is typically located on the back of a desktop computer or on the back or side of a laptop. The port is 1/2” wide whereas a phone jack is only 3/8” wide. All new computers and most computers under 5 years old have an Ethernet port. Older computers can be upgraded.
